I like it but I didn't realize it wasn't a day-by-day collection of front pages but is for selected dates only. I suppose I should have checked the page count first as the book would be much larger if it was every day. Regardless, this is a nice book for WW2 buffs/5(4).

Stan Cohen's page reference book "V For Victory: America's Home Front during World War II" is an embarrassment of riches and the most thorough book I've been able to find that focuses squarely on the impact of the war on the home by: 5. What better place to start than Page One: The Front Page History of World War II as Presented in The New York Times.

It was the bloodiest conflict, as well as the largest war, in history. Douglas & McIntyre published a book of mine called The Front Page Story of World War II. It consisted of Vancouver newspapers I had collected during the war when I was going to Kitsilano High School.

I loved the FINAL editions that came out at 4 p.m. because of their large and colourful woodtype headlines. "The Story of World War II" taught me a lot about the great war of nations.

Great, of course, in the sense that even still it's hard to believe that the whole thing actually took place in a space in time, less than a hundred years ago.

And that, though now few, there are survivors still with us to tell the tale/5. World War I, also known as WWI (abbreviation), the First World War, the Great War, and "The War to End All Wars", was a global military conflict that took place mostly in Europe between and It left millions dead and re-shaped the modern world.

The outcomes of World War I would be important factors in the development of World War II 21 years later. Get this from a library. From the start of the war in Europe to its end nearly six years later, the story of the Holocaust made the Times front page only 26 times out of 24, front-page stories, and most of those.

The fact that the fighting is still going strong at the book’s end confirms that this isn’t a story about war in any real sense, but rather a novel set in a time of war. To a tune called pleasing.

The Home Front is the name given to the effect of the war on people’s everyday lives. Home Front WW2: Evacuation. When the war began in September the government knew that large cities would be the target for German.

World War II was next on our agenda as we traveled through the beautiful French countryside that once was a shell-scarred wasteland crisscrossed with French and German trench lines.
